Armenian Ceramics
Armenian ceramics are a prominent part of the markets in the land of Israel. Their beautiful colors and traditional designs make these hand-painted ceramics a unique gift and souvenir from Israel. The vibrant colors and intricate patterns were developed by Armenian potters.
In the early 1900’s, potters and artisans came to Israel from Armenia in order to restore the ancient tiles at religious holy sites. And eventually they opened studios in the old city of Jerusalem.
“SHABBAT” (SABBATH) CANDLES AND CANDLE HOLDERS
Lighting the Sabbath candles formally ushers in the Sabbath for the members of the household. The minimum number of candles lit is two representing the two forms of the fourth commandment: “Zachor” Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy (Exodus 20:8) and “Shamor” Observe the Sabbath and keep it holy. (Deuteronomy 5:12). In Jewish homes it is traditional for the woman of the house to light the candles before the sun sets on Friday evening, and to recite a special Prayer.
Lighting the Shabbat candles is generally performed by the woman of the house on Erev Shabbat (Evening Sabbath). Though this is a tradition and it is not a biblical commandment. It is still a beautiful way to focus on the light that Yeshua brings to our homes.
